ELO: Teddy Bear as a gate to the outside world

The Amaral-Carvalho hospital in Brazil provides treatments for children who suffer from cancer. These treatments can be long and heavy, and isolated. Because of the treatment, children have low defences for illnesses, so their contact to the outside world is limited.

To deal with this loneliness, children get their own ELO. ELO is a teddybear that can recieve and play recorded Whatsapp messages. Each bear has his own telephone number. Family, friends, teachers and others can leave messages. By sqeezing the hand of the bear, a message is played.

This way, a toy becomes a gate to the outside world and helps children cope with this difficult period in their lives.

We are touched: so simple, so nice.
